Tidal Tao

Tidal Tao is an absolutely gem here on the North Coast. They are passionate about ocean conservation and offer wonderful activities to educate and inspire people to care and conserve our ocean life.

At Tidal Tao, we are dilly, silly and plain old passionate about the ocean and our neighborhood of Salt Rock, near Ballito, on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. This is possibly some of the best snorkelling expediences South Africa has to offer, year round warm water, incredible fish and marine life, all in shallow, safe, protected areas…..and we want you to experience it too. “In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.” (www.tidaltao.com)

Visit their store at SaltRock Lifestyle (opposite Dischem) in the Lifestyle Centre and visit their site for more info.  They offer Rocky Shore Night Walks and snorkeling safaris. We did the Rocky Shore Night Walk last year at Chaka’s Rock Beach Tidal Pool and it was such an eye opener, highly recommended for visitors as well as locals.

They produced this amazing Fish ID guide in partnership with the Wilderness Leadership School and sponsored by Sappi, which is free to download as a pdf.

57 Chakas Cove on AirBNB

It is free to register and what is fantastic about it is that not only do guests rate the accommodation/hosts, but the hosts rate the guests too.  So it is in everyone’s best interests to be great guests as well as great hosts!

You can search for varied types of accommodation, be it a room in someones home, or exclusive use of an entire house. I had a look on AirBnb for Ballito accommodation for 2 guests and there is all sorts of beautiful accommodation available.

Us South African’s are very familiar with sites like Where to Stay and Safari Now, but why not consider AirBnb too. You can register as a user here. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you will find.
